Preschool: Color Party Part 2!

I've had a busy couple of weeks and I'm behind in updating the blog! I'll post quickly today and come back to add more pictures later this week... :)

Introduction: We briefly reviewed all the colors we have done in the past several weeks and talked about the fact that if you mix some of those (primary) colors together, you get new (secondary) colors.

White mice on white paper can't be seen.

The mice find jars of paint and jump in.

The now colorful mice drip paint on the floor.

When each mouse dances in a different colored puddle, new colors appear.

The mice take a bath in the cat's dish. Once they are white again, the cat doesn't see them.

I passed out many different colors of "wool" to the children. When I sang "Baa, baa, pink sheep," for example, the child with the pink wool added it to the board.

Game: “Red Light, Green Light”

Since I had a full house, we did this old favorite by marching in place. We talked about what each sign meant and the kids adjusted their marching speed according to which sign I held up. If you have the space, try marking off start and finish lines. 

Green means go
Yellow means slow and careful
Red means stop!

Preschool: Color Green

Introduction: Together we brainstormed things that are green. Some of the answers I got included grass, trees, and alligators. Visual cues in the room helped the kids with this.

We briefly reviewed the primary colors we have done in the past three weeks and talked about the fact that if you mix some of those colors together, you get new colors. For example, yellow and blue together make green.

Preschool: Color Orange

Introduction: Together we brainstormed things that are orange. Some of the answers I got included pumpkins, tigers, carrots, oranges, cats, and the post-it note bookmarks on my rhyme charts (great noticing!) Visual cues in the room helped the kids with this.

Flannelboard story: "The Giant Carrot"  
My retelling is based on the folktale "The Giant Turnip", which came to me via Kendra at Read Sing Play and Judy Sierra. 

Similar to "The Giant Turnip", characters in this story must work together to pull the carrot from the ground. Despite the skepticism of the larger animals, the tiny snail adds the last bit of strength needed to succeed.
